Am I the only one that doesn't have this problem? After 12,000 miles, I still haven't lost a drop. I check regularly and change my oil about every 3-4,000 miles. Am I just lucky? BTW, I do VTEC regularly.

No, you are not the only one. Every engine and break-in is different, but there are plenty of us that have cars that have never used oil. I have not had to add oil in 10K miles.

For those of you who dont burn any oil, I take it you have not experienced the black soot on your bumper and exhaust tips?

My car has burned very little oil (1/5 quart in 1000 miles) and I see plenty of black deposits on the exhaust tips. I also see the same thing on my '95 Prelude which does not burn a drop of oil.

My guess is that the black is mostly carbon deposits from buring a rich mixture on startup. Just my guess though.

My car has only burned 1 1/2 quarts of oil or so in 12,900 miles. I did the first oil change at 3600 miles, 2nd at 7500 miles (switched to synthetic), and the 3rd at 10,500 miles.

The exhaust tips have a little bit of black deposit on them, but nothing excessive to worry about. I clean them every couple of weeks or maybe once a month.

My car has never burned a drop of oil either. I bought it in Sept. 99, but only have 5500 miles on it (what can I say, I work from home).

My Stook burned a quart and a half up to the first oil change (3,700 miles), and hasn't burned a drop since. The oil consumption in the first 600 miles was minimal, but once I got the go-ahead for VTEC land, the oil consumption increased (side note: I drive super agressive). The specific nature of the cylinder walls (FRM+Ceramic) in this particular engine makes oil consumption almost a given, but as Chris said, engines vary, and so does driving style, which can have a lot to do with it.

Most of the black soot I find on the rear bumper is tire dust which stops once the tires are worn down (happens with all soft compound tires). All cars are going to have a little black on the exhaust, including those that are not using oil.

1/2 quart so far at 1300 miles. No deposits on the tailpipes and VTEC about once a day.
