All of the above really. Suspensions are designed with the assumption that the chassis is an infinitely stiff structural piece. Chassis flex will cause the suspension to not work as designed. Dynamic responses probably won't be ideal either.

The reason I stiffen up my chassis is to reduce undamped wheel rate. I find that s2k power steering is just way too light for my taste for high speed driving. A bit nervous and oscillate at high speed. The outside rear end squat too much at high speed too. When you have too much undamped wheel rate the car will feel nervous. If you try to stiffen up your shocks or springs it will only get worst. The stiffer your suspension setup the more chassis flex you'll have. Your shocks will not dampen your chassis flex, and it will oscillate. The more correction the driver makes on steering and thruttle the worst it gets.
Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps.

i know this is off topic, but will STB's and other braces reduce the creak from my hardtop when going over dips/driveways??

So I have an air freshener that I clip to the AC vents on the passenger side. It's filled with 5 balls that contain a powder-like aroma. These balls have been wearing down lately and thus I can often hear the balls rattling harshly during normal DD driving. I wouldn't consider this completely normal engine rumble. Would the sway bar or X brace do much for the rattling? I'm getting these bars to save me from hearing the rattle. I can feel it too, but now I have an audio signal to remind me of the rattling too.

For you, dyhppy, I would say there is zero actual benefit. The ONLY benefit you will get is what ever it is in your mind that makes you happy when you look at the braces you've spent your hard earned cash on. Past that bit of special ornamentation, you probably have added more weight than the performance aspect of the bars could make up for in time around a circuit. Now, I doubt you care about that so if the bars look good to you and you enjoy them, go for it.

Oh, and they may make the car feel more solid and I guess that could be perceived as worth it.
