Default What are some reliable hardtops?

Since some deliquent decided to slash my top.. I'm looking at getting a hardtop.

I just have a few questions, hopefully someone will be able to assist me with answers..

1.) What is the weight differential between the carbon fiber hard top and fiberglass? [i looked for a while, but no look finding answers..]

2.) What are some reliable carbon fiber hard top makers?

3.) Is it possible to order one through a shop, and if so.. will I have to go through a dealer?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have a hardtop, but I've read a lot of threads and might be able to at least render some educated opinions.

1) The weight differential should be minimal. A hardtop doesn't make much advantage of the way composites like CF can save weight - it is just being used as "black aluminum".

2) There are some high quality companies out there that makes nice parts that fit well. But I think you'll always get the best fit with an OEM top. There is also a lot of questionable guys out there...like the Ebay crap.

3) If you get an OEM I think that hardtopguy sells them, and there is a dealer that people order thru in Arizona I think, but I don't know much about that. If you go aftermarket I think that Bulletproof Automotive has a good selection.

The Honda HT is great. One thing you will instantly notice is the improved visibilty with all the glass. Even the Honda HT can be a bugger to precisely align. Contact Jeff at www.hardtopguy.com. He knows more about HT's than anybody.

Would I be able to order it through the shop? Or.. would I be better off purchasing one myself and taking it to the shop to have it installed?

You could probably install it yourself. Why would you want to order thru a shop that will probably tack some kind of markup onto it?

OEM = 44lbs
Mugen FRP = 44lbs
Mugen CF = 33lbs
Amuse CF = I have no idea

You can get them through shops and get them in installed and if you shop around it may be cheaper then going to the dealership. HT guy is pretty cheap, Idontwait (S2KIin group buy section) can get the Mugen tops, inline four can get both OEM and Mugen, evasive can get Amuse and Mugen. You can also check the for sale forums
