The release button for my cup holder decide to quit. Now I can't close the cup holder. Seems like the spring is broken or something. Anyone have any experience with this?

Yeah, I couldn't get it to retract for a while then it started working again. I never really looked at it closely to see how the catch works.

It's a spring loaded detent mechanism similar to the one on the radio door. If you're having trouble with it, get a new cupholder either on warranty or out of your own pocket. I doubt that little mechanism can be "fixed". You might be able to lift up the console cover, remove the cupholder and squirt a little silicone in the hinge mechanism to see it'll smooth itself out, but beyond that, it's not worth taking apart.

There's a very little nub of plastic that breaks off if you force it. Once that happens it won't close again.

I've been meaning to fix my old one using a needle bearing roller but haven't come across one in ages.

I am not referring to the cupholder cover, but the release button. Press on this button, and the cover slides open.

Hmmm, must be an '04 thing. My '00 doesn't have a button. I just push on the lid to click it to open. I also close it and click it and it stays.

u sure u don't have like a pen in there that wedged its way up stopping the door from opening. that happened to me for like a few days. a little spirited driving and the pen worked its way loose and voila.

I found this old thread that discusses the problem I'm having but I'd like a little more info please. The other day I jammed a can and my cell phone in the cup holder and now the lid wont close.

My friend opened it up and a little plastic nub seems to have broken off.
Do I have to take it to the dealer to fix?I dont think its still under warranty.Any idea how much this will cost to fix?Its driving me crazy!
