Okay that's what the acronym stands for but does anyone know what it is, how an owner becomes aware of one and what he/she is supposed to do?

its a note to dealers/ service departments about known issues with the car, not a big enough deal to warrant a recall, but there to advise servicers of issues and the manufacturer's recommended solution.

Correct! TSB = Technical Service Bulletin

It's simply a document that the manufacturer sends to it's dealer network with instructions and/or advise on how to deal with certain problems that their paperwork indicates are starting to crop up more frequently than they'd like.

This is "not" a recall. In fact, it's probably something that the manufacturer would prefer that we never know anything about. Fortunately for us, info can be found on such issues because of this wonderful thing called the Internet.

If you've got a problem that's been around long enough to generate a TSB, then there's a good chance that the dealer can do the work at no cost to you whether the car is still in warranty or not. This isn't guaranteed but such work is often done on a "good will" basis, especially if you've got a good working relationship with the dealer. The dealer will have to get approval from the manufacturer before doing the work if it's not an obvious warranty issue so each case will be different.

Drive Safe,
Steve R.
