Default What would you do about an OIL OVERFILL?

I am not quite sure where I should be posting this topic so it will be here in S2000 Talk as well as Under the Hood. Moderators do with it what you will if you feel necessary.

Being the anal retentive freak that I am, I was out in the garage last night looking over the car, checking fluids and such. I topped off my oil, seeing as it was down about 1-2 X's, but ended up adding a bit too much. The oil level now reads just above the top of the H. I did do a search on this subject and all it came back with were numerous threads about how you SHOULDN'T overfill your oil capacity. None of them specifically asked the question I am asking here.

In this situation what would you personally do about it?

I only have 1,800 miles on the car so I don't really want to do a complete drain and fill yet(break-in oil)...so what are my options?

Would you go ahead with the drain and fill and just say screw the factory fill oil with the supposed "break-in" additives?

Would you attempt to take a hose, stick it down the fill hole, and suck the third to half pint out of the engine somehow?

I just can't see myself under the car, unscrewing the drain bolt, allowing some to drain, and then attempting to put the drain bolt back in and screw it in before entirely too much drains out.

WHAT TO DO?

You can easily unscrew the oil filter, dump it, put it back on, start the car for a few seconds, shut it off and check the level. If it is still too full, repeat.

You could always go out and VTEC for a while -- that'll get the oil level down!

If it's just above the H, the oil shouldn't foam up or anything.

I thought about this. I thought perhaps I should just go cruise around for an hour or two to see if I can burn any of it off but wasn't quite sure if I would do any damage or not. It says in the manual specifically not to overfill but I didn't think a third of a quart was that big of a deal.

i guess the main danger is building too much pressure and blowing a head gasket...
definitely would not vtec with an overfill-
easiest way would be to use a pump that uses a hose- i know i have seen one somewhere recently for changing oil.

unscrew the oil drain bolt slowly and when enough is poured out, make it tight again. i dont think replacing the washer is necessary, just make sure the bolt is tight(but don't overtighten, you don't want to strip the thread).

Do not sweat it if it is only a few ounces... No way is it going to cause an issue.

If it is like a half quart or more, then I'd do the suggested oil filter routine.

This should NOT be used on the S2000. Since the dip stick passes through the head and block before getting to the oil pan, it is easy to get the hose hung up. One owner had to pull his engine apart to get a broken hose out.
