Hi!
Just wanted to see what build numbers are out there. I'm specially interested in the latest for 2001! If Honda states only 5000 in the U.S., does that mean only up to 5000 build numbers? I think I've seen someone in the 6000 range?
Reply with year and number! Thanks!

The VIN is composed of the following:
JHMAP1 14* Y T 000001

Where JHM= Honda Motor Company LTD.
Honda Passenger Vehicle
AP1= S2000/F20C1 (engine)
1 = Body / Transmission 2 door convertible/6 speed
4 = Vehicle Grade Base Model
* = Check Digit
Y = Model Year
T = Tochigi Plant
000001 = Serial number

Honda has only limited the EXPORT to North America 5,000 / And Europe 5,000 cars per year. Japan is unlimited. The car is sold in three market; North America, Europe/Oceania(Australia), and Japan. You can expect to see a wide variety of serial numbers above 5000. The Canadian delineator is 8XXXX.

We've been down this road before, and there is no consensus about relating the serial numbers to the numbers of cars in a particular market. There were over 8000 MY 2000 cars distributed in North America (based on sales numbers), so we'll need to wait to see for MY 2001. All I CAN say with certainty is the "limited to 5000 units per year" sales claim made in order to sell a "limited production vehicle" is bogus.

No rhyme or reason to the serial numbers although I haven't seen one over the 5000 mark.

I'm basically looking for the latest U.S. 2001 numbers. So when I drop $$$ on one coming in, I'll know an estimate of where the production is at, so dealer doesn't give me a bogus number of like 10!!! OR is the VIN # is just handed out random???
