Default What's the best way to shift from 2nd to 3rd?

When I go from 2nd to 3rd I have been letting the shifter naturally find neutral and then go straight up. However, I feel a slight notchiness on the right side when I make this shift, even well after the car is warmed up.

Is there a better way to go from 2nd to 3rd? How do you do it?

The stick finds its own way - I just give a gentle push with the palm of my hand

Like you I find the 2-3 upshift the most sensitive to creating the notchy feeling. Sometimes it seems like all the stars in the heavens have to be in alignment for it to work 100% notch free. To have it notch free on my car I find that the warmer the trans gets the better it works (you mentioned that), the micro-second pause in netural helps (you mentioned that), and finally it's very sensitive to shift lever placement - and, to my senses 3rd never feels like it is "straight" up (at least not to my feedback), if I position it ever so slightly NW rather than straight N, I find it goes into 3rd smoothly. My other approach is to shift at the redline; for whatever reason it goes much smoother. Changing the transmission fluid really helped, and I've done that a couple times, but with even 18k on the car it still is annoying at times.

2->3 is easy for me. 4->5 is my only problem shift right now. It's notchy for me.

Interesting.

Mine is a very easy angle shot and have had no problems in 3 years.

Yeah 3rd gear is a problem too, somehow it doesn't go in smoothly like the rest of the gears. It feels like it is rubbing against something as you take it up from 2nd to 3rd. I guess it might be normal, not sure though...

After changing the clutch fluid, 2nd gear shifts perfectly after it's warmed up, but 3rd is still a little notchy at times. Mine feels like it's 'catching' on the left side. Sometimes it's fine, then other times it makes me cring. Changing the tranny fluid soon w/ GM synchromesh FM to see if that helped... worked wonders (non-FM) in my old accord. Buttery smooth shifting.

only problem i have form 2nd>3rd is when i try to shift fast. i tend to hit the center mark between 1st and 3rd so it goes no where. i like the bump it in neutral, then go to 3rd idea. it helps.
