You didn't release the clutch quickly enough and span the clutch instead of the wheels.

Been there, done that (once) - it won't happen again.

You have discovered one of the weak points in the S2000, the clutch.

If you do not step off the clutch at 7k (plus or minus) or if you step off at low rpm's the clutch will spin and you will literally stink up the joint. (Bet you smelled it burning)

Lots of threads here on clutches and what to do...do search and have fun.

Good Luck,

You do realize that you are destroying your car, right?

"How would you like your clutch sir... roasted or fried? May I recommend a side order of cracked differential?"

Yup, this is why I considered a used S2000 for about two seconds.
I'll be buying a new 2002 instead.

At the present stage of aftermarket available replacements, YES. Of course, it's your car and you do whatever you like with it, but you must be prepared to replace some clutches and the possibility of a rear end, too. One day, somebody will produce a bullet proof (not the company) clutch and rear end for our cars. Till then, you can launch but not repeatedly and safely. A Mustang or Camaro makes a far better drag car but then, they corner like the Bismark by comparison.
