Default What's up with the Tar?

So I'm washing my new 05 and reach in the rear wheel wells and its got fresh tar all inside!!! Is this normal? Already it has a bunch of small rocks stuck to it? Is this supposed to be taken out during PDI? Never seen that before.

Actually it is not from the road, it is from the factory. It is used as sound proofing.

Is it just the wheel well, or all underneath the car.....I'm thinking that it could be undercoating that the dealer sprayed on.

Yep, just like they said. I just test drove a yellow '05 , and when I looked down each side where the body panels are attached down at the rocker panel.....it was just coated with a black/oily tar-like substance. I rubbed my thumb on it to see what it was, and it kinda rubbed off on my skin. It washed off when I went to clean up in the bathroom, and the dealer told me that it came from the factory that way. He didn't know exactly what it was, but was positive that it wasn't done at the dealership. I always thought that undercoating solidified.....but this stuff was like it was brushed on, since I could see brush marks in it. Not that bid a deal since it washes off somewhat, but if it washes off.....then it doesn't seem to me that it would be undercoating
