I've been driving for over 34 years and have never owned a radar detector in my life. It's been my common sense and luck that has helped me never get a ticket (knock on wood_.

I have a V-1 and I really like it. That having been said, I agree with Dario. I've been driving for about 35 years and there is no substitute for common sense and a little luck.

If you must buy a radar detector the V-1 is very good and I've heard that the Passport is also very good. The V-1 is by no means the only good detector out there.

Escort Passport SR-1 - bought it used for $300 or so. Install was a ton of work, but it works great and is impossible to steal without taking the car apart.

I mounted the display on the bottom of the dash pod by the radio door. Best spot - it's not readily visible when you look in the car and people tailing me can't tell I've got a detector.

Passport 8500. It is the best. It's hardwired in, and placed on the top of the dash all the way in the left corner mounted with velcro. Perfect spot. Sorry all V1 users.

I'm using a 5 year old whistler in my S. never had a ticket (for speeding anyways ) works fine for me, as I use common sense for the style of driving I do in a given place. I just can't justify paying $400.00 for a radar dect. when my old $85 piece works fine.
