My dealer asked for $600 for gap insurance. I paid $295 at my credit union.

Whoever services your loan should be able to offer it.

i got my loan through capital one. i called, and they don't offer the gap insurance. I changed my insurance from progressive to geico since it was a lot cheaper. progressive has gap, but geico doesn't. now i need to find only the gap coverage.

Surprising that Capitol One does not offer it.

Gap insurance is usually calculated off the amount of your loan.

Why would you want gap insurance in the first place?

^ cars depreciate the most in the first couple of years... if you total your car and owe more on your loan it then it's worth... well, you'll only get what it's worth, not what you paid for it. Gap ins. takes the worry out of being upside down on your loan.
