Default where to buy a streetpilot III

decided to post this in this forum for more replies

any ideas where to buy a SPIII for the lowest price? also, does the SPIII deluxe version include all the unlock codes for the map?

one further question for any SPIII users. If i take this unit to europe, all i have to purchase is the map for this area?

thanks in advance

I found best price at amazon.com for $699. And, yes it is delux version with unlock for all maps. I am thinking about picking one up but can't decide if I want to go with alpine DVD GPS or SPIII....

Well, have fun shopping.

I highly recommend

http://www.gpscity.com/

also good is

http://www.tvnav.com/

(but they have a lame web page).

The "deluxe" kit includes the SPIII, 128mb memory card, USB programmer, City Navigator CDROM with unlock codes for the entire USA, and more.

Be sure this is what you get - for a while some folks were selling SP III's on EBay that were the older, single region unlocks and no 128mb card. You had to read the fine print or e-mail them to be sure.

The Streetpilot III is discontinued, replaced with the streetpilot III deluxe which bundles in more stuff...

If you really want the III not the deluxe, it's $590 with free shipping here:

If you can find the III, not the deluxe, you might save some money, but I've not found anyone who has them. The only difference is the software that comes with it, which you can purchase separately anyway, but in the end, buying all that stuff separately will probably cost more. I'd go for the deluxe package.

The 128mb memory card and the "all USA" software more than make up for the price difference between the III and the III deluxe.

Some folks were selling III kits on eBay for nice prices - it appeared. If you read the fine print or asked them, it turns out they were trying to "fool" people into buying their old non-deluxe IIIs thinking they were getting a good deal on a "deluxe".

Tha mapping software is also updated and much improved -- it now covers rural areas that weren't on the earlier version, and it's two CDs instead of one because of the extra detail.
