Check the E-30 M3's too... they SCREAM
By a hair, the best BMW ever (for me). Second choice goes to a 96-99 318ti with a Downing Atlanta supercharger. Third is the later M coupe with that torque-monster engine from the E-46 M3.
The thing that all three of those cars have in common is a more lively rear-axle that is simpler than most of the E36 and later cars, and makes me grin like a monkey. For all of these cars, buy the latest, best one you can.
