Default where does your 5th gear top out?

Heres the story, the other day the freeway was clear and I decided to punch it, so I down it into 4th at about 80 mph and take it all the way to 7800. Shift into 5th and take that to 7800 rpm as well and noticed my speed was 118 mph. My car is stock AP2 and that seems a little low to me for some reason as I have seen AP1s go well into the 100+ in 4th gear. I thought I was going crazy so I did it again with jay (jdmghostrider) and same result. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
-AJ

You do know that AP1s and AP2s have different gearing right?

Lets do some logical calculations here (don't worry, they aren't hard).

Take the taller 5th gear of an AP1, add 1000 extra RPMs before every shift, VOILA! A higher speed at redline in 5th gear! WOW! How'd I just do that?

But wait you say, 5th gear in an AP2 is in fact 1% taller than an AP1. Yes, but the transfer ratio in the AP2 (which, coincidentally, is also different from an AP1) actually makes that gear shorter still. So yeah, there ya go.

Incorrect, AP2s have a 4.1 final gear as do AP1s. Things were changed around in the transmission of the AP2 which make the car "act" as if it has a 4.3 final gear.

A better question is what does 6th take it to, I think. I don't hear about these cars hitting incredibly high speeds all too often.... what do they logically max at? Sorry for the slight threadjack, but I've been wondering and I don't want to litter the forum.

Doesn't 4th gear in a AP1 go to 118 or close? I haven't been up that high in quite some time.

Azz man, AP1-168 AP2- 147 MPH (IIRC)

I've hit the rev limiter in 5th gear A LOT. I'm doing around 125mph at that point.
