Default Who here have moved from a Type R to a S2000

I've been searching around, deciding which car i should get. I have read many threads that people change from the Type Rs to S2000 on s2ki and other sites. Everyone seem to love the S2000 and say its better than the Type Rs. I am really stuck between the two.

I don't want to buy a EP3R and end up selling it in under a year because i regret not getting an S2000 or vice versa.

I am willing to pay more for an S2000 if it will stop me from selling the EP3R in under a year. But then i also have the thought that i will sell the S2000 in under a year because of it being impractical only having 2 seats, i will feel bad i can only take 1 person at a time.

The EP3 seems to have a cult going on (Sydney EP3 thread, people recognising each others cars), while i haven't seen much of it from owning a S2000.

I think the S2000 boot will be plenty big enough, especially if i take out the spare tire.

EP3R
Pros
- 4 seats
- EP3 cult
- K20A easy to get power out of it
- After a long drive can put the seats flat and have a rest

Cons
- FWD :'(
- Not as sexy as the S2000

S2000
Pros
- RWD
- Sexy and appealing
- Convertible (if only EP3R had a sunroof then i don't really care)

Cons
- 2 Seater
- Can't put seats flat down to have a rest after a long drive

So my real question is why did you guys buy a Type R first then change to a S2000? Why didn't you guys just save up for a few more months and buy a S2000 straight out?

type r's are a bit more rare here in CA than S2k's. Unfortunately I don't fit your criteria. Came very close to getting a new Type R, but went for the GS-R instead (wanted a moonroof), plus they didn't have phoenix yellow in stock) back in 01.
Personally I think the type-R's a glorified gs-r, with better suspension and a tad better HP (yeah i'm gonna get my arse kicked for that statement).
Still respect it, but having (and still owning both my gs-r) and s2k. Though if it makes up for it, lol I did attempt to upgrade my gs-r to a few type-r parts. Heh shifter, exhaust, etc. =)

He is talking about the Pikachu 02-05 minivan EP3 Civic Type R, not a DC2 ITR.

Search the inventory at used Honda dealerships and test drive both. What I have noticed with the S2K is the "Dayyyyom!" factor. It's a people magnet. Little kids crossing the street with their parents get excited and point at my car, even with the top up. I was dropping a coworker off when his car was at the shop and his kids came running to my car as if I had landed an airplane on a primitive island. They asked me if I had a racecar and whether I was their father's boss. I get compliments on my S2K from people young and old. With an EP3, you'll pretty much only get noticed by other Honda enthusiasts. I doubt you'll even be happy with it past the age of 24.

Nah i was referring to all Type Rs. DC2R, DC5R, EP3R.

Yes i would love to have the factor that ppl go when the see my car. But how can u deal with only being able to take 1 passenger. I would feel bad for taking one friend home and not the other.

And ur totally correct about EP3, only other Honda enthusiasts will notice it. I think the EP3 would be more of a wow factor for Honda enthusiasts than a S2000 especially in Australia when they are heaps rarer than a S2000.

If only S2000 was a 4 seater my life wouldn't be so hard....

Maybe you should stop worrying about your passengers and what will impress others. Drive a car that YOU are impressed with.

I used to own an Ep3 for about 8 years! But just a USDM one, not it's Type-R counterpart. I have to say, the only things that I do miss are the space and left hand cupholder.

If you are worried about room and driving around a bunch of people then the s2k might not be for you. You can always get a cheap beater car or just have people drive you around haha

I had a '98 ITR (#363 RIP) back in '02-'04, it was a great car, but the S is much better in the aspects of handling, overall speed, more power, refinement. Definitely won't be going back to a FWD "sports car"
