right now im stock, but instead of trial and error with the exhaust systems, im going to just get the amuse dual ti. so far its what i want and ill be meeting a member on the board with one at HIN, so by then ill have my final decision. if i decide not to go with the amuse(which i doubt i will), ill just scrap the exhaust and get a really good header and some other work untill i can decide what i want.
i like to see if someone can post a dual exhaust on a 04. I think single will not look right on the 04 due to the little cut out. anyone has pics please post!
Here's what I've been thinking based on responses to this thread, searches on this board, and clips from the S2000 exhaust library:
Amuse: That would be an obvious winner if it wasn't for price. $2K? Nah, not in this lifetime.
Comptech: This was my first choice, but I've had second thoughts because it weighs almost as much as the stock exhaust and it's price is more on the high end of what I'd like to spend on an exhaust.
Invidia: This was my second choice. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on this exhaust, but I'm afraid it will end up being too loud and attract unwanted attention from local law enforcement. I'm also concerned about fitment. Some people have complained about the exhaust melting spots on the bumper because of the mufflers being too close to the bumper or the bumper swaying during spirited driving or track use. And finally, I like the look of the Invidia except that it appears the mufflers are not parallel to each other. From photos, it appears they mount like / not like ||
Spugen: I've also considered the Spugen dual oval with round tips and the dual titanium v2. I like the looks and I like the sound clips, but I'm not really sold on Spugen because I have concerns that over time, the piping leading to the mufflers could rust, based on a few problems others have had in the past.
I don't believe Spugen is using Magnaflow anymore but don't quote me
on that one. I know their titanium canisters are made by Falken. I've
owned the following:
Tanabe Racing Medallion Aluminized steel. Rusts easily. Sounded ok but the car resembled
a modified Civic Si, not a modifed S2000. That exhaust was very intrusive to the tone of the F20C
and even with an intake, you basically just heard the exhaust. Custom Supertrapp Sounded like a sportbike on steroids. Very unique sound at VTEC, not for
everyone. Light, controlled backpressure (or rather manipulative to a small degree) by adding or
subtracting the number of discs being used. This system is usually seen on muscle cars (when
not on bikes). Spugen Single w/ Ti-tip canister (version 1) This was Spugen's aluminized steel offering that had
very minor bends which resulted in the canister coming out at what I affectionately call "the Supra
angle." VERY aggressive-looking exhaust and a strong sound. Impressive gains...one of the most
free-flowing single exhaust offerings available. Custom built polished stainless steel full mandrel bent exhaust w/ Revolution carbon fiber muffler, titanium blaze tip Best exhaust I've owned to date. At idle, it's relatively quiet. I had the bends reduced as much as practical so the angle from the cat to the canister is about as straight as possible. The final bend to the canister was intentionally made gradual to keep the final angle reduced (for maximum flow) and to create the aggressive side exit of the canister muffler (of which I like, I know others don't like it when it comes out at the side like this but for a single, it just seems to work). The angle of this pic makes the canister look like it's hanging too low but actually, when you're standing behind the car or driving behind it, it's positioned just right. Putting the muffler too close to the fascia and it's gonna melt (ask others....lol).
I think a straight exit out single is too mild looking, especially if the left indent on the empty fascia is left uncovered.
At WOT, this exhaust SCREAMS. Still have the drone from 3-4K (especially when backing off the
throttle in that rpm range) but without the additional resonator, all singles (and most
duals) will have that. It's why Honda put it there with the original system.
Can't imagine a finer exhaust for this price ballpark. Total cost including the canister, about $500 and Revolution make great mufflers. This isn't some eBay piece of crap. Normal street price for this muffler is $185-225. Hard to find a polished stainless steel single with a quality canister muffler for under $700, let
alone $500 but any custom muffler shop that can mandrel bend should be able to hook you up.
On another note, I've heard Nick's exhaust (JIC). Sounds amazing.
- I have a spugen single ti (version 1?) and it DOES have a magnaflow resonator...
- this exhaust is pretty loud, sounds great though.. no raspiness (sp?) at all
- this exhaust has a mad angle on it... maybe a little too much
Like I said before, I have the T1R single exhaust from A&J Racing. If you do a search on this exhaust, you'll find nothing but praise for this system, especially for the price.
Piping is full stainless steel-63mm. It has nice resonator to keep the noise to a decent level. The muffler is a stainless canister with a 90mm titanium tip.
The sound is very deep. Absolutely no civic-esque raspyness. The sound is booming at times, at certain rpms, and under deceleration. However, you can still hear your music at low volume, or carry on a normal conversation. Its hard to describe...you know the exhaust is there, but it doesn't interfere with music or talking. You can add the silencer for near stock sound levels.
VTEC is in-frikken-credible. I frequent a domestic-dominated cruise night every week, and even these guys have commented on how cool is sounds when I take off to 9K RPM.
Definately something to consider
And as you can see from the pictures, visually, it doesn't attract the wrong type of people
