Default Who's uninformed - the Honda salesman or me?

I spoke to a Bay Area dealer and inquired about the purchase of S2K's. I told him that I was interested in perhaps '03s if he had any information on when they would be out.

He quickly told me that since S2k's have late delivery times that they'd arrive early NEXT YEAR. Yes...that translates to Jan '03. To be even more ridiculous, he told me that Acura is working to take the S2000 label from Honda because they want to make it more "upscale" and increase the price...that's why he's unwilling to budge on his MSRP+3k. After hearing this, I quickly realized that this saleman obviously has no idea what he's talking about and ended the talk right there.

Now I've never heard of anything like the Acura claims that he's stating. Does Honda teach their salesman to come up with bogus stories just to get customers to buy or am I the uninformed one here.

Most salesmen are retarded that tell stories like that and are full of shoit. I always know more than them from simply reading Motor Trend, Car and Driver, etc. Anyway...there is no way the s2000 is going to be an ACURA. If it were it would have started an acura. The thing is that it is a celebration of HONDA and their racing. There had been talk at the get go of making it an acura, but because of the preceding reason they said to hell with Acura which is a bogus figure only in the US and Canada...

Salesmen are retarded, for fun, I learn about a car then go tell the salesmen I want to buy one. Then get a kick out of all the BS they try and feed you, then prove them wrong, and leave!

Its great fun

You are generous. Idiots would make mistakes that DISFAVOR their position as much as favor their position. Most salesmen are ................... well ........................ salesmen. They are trying to nudge that sale forward, and they have "information" to urge you to buy now.

Did anyone on this board ever hear a salesman say, "I have an S2000 on the floor for MSRP, but, I bet if you wait a couple of months it will cost you $3000 less because the new ones will be here and the pent up demand will be met."?

Many salesmen realize that honesty is good business. When I ask a salesman for advanced information, I'm usually told, "Gee, Barry, you usually know that stuff before we do because you read the car magazines and the internet." THAT is a wise way to defuse the situation.

My dealer DID know about the glass rear window in MY'02 by April, 2001, and he told me about it when I asked him.

depends which dealer you have. sounds like your dealer sucks though. i'm paying below MSRP for my M3 SMG though my bmw dealer is nice, my honda dealer sucks. i have no problems yet with the S2000, hoping there will be no problem with it.

I have been told by two dealers in San Antonio that the MY 03 will be built in early Oct and will arrive at dealers in late Oct - early Nov. There have been some threads on this forums where dealers in the Chicago area are selling for less than sticker and here in San Antonio MSRP is the going price. Save some money, take a vacation and order one from out of state and drive it back. I can't think of a better way to break in your new car.
