Default why break in new diff gear?

i sort of understood why one ought to go easy on the engine at the beginning, but what is the reason for going slow on a new diff gear set? from what i saw, the pinion fits exactly into the ring so there is really no "getting used to it" involved. a few heat cycles, i guess would be ok.

forgive me, i know nothing. please teach.

For the same reason you broke them in the first 600 mile you owned the car. You just tought it was the engine your were breaking in, it was realy a number of other things too.

Engine, transmission, differential, brakes, clutch, etc. Kind of like breaking in a new pair of pants or shoes, everything needs to get settled.

I would say no hard launches or banging the gears.
