Default Why does my top not always fold down correctly?

It seems 8 out of 10 times I try to lower my top, it doesnt fold down correctly thus not going down all the way when I wanna ride topless! How can I fix this or would I need to buy another soft top? My buddy had this same problem in his '01, so is this common for us older AP1's? It didnt do this alot in the past, but now it seems to be way worse than before, so its obvious getting worse over time.

Maybe your elastic straps have worn. This is fairly common on early cars. Try this: While sitting in the car, locate the cross bar directly above your head. Now, open the top half-way. Push that bar to the rear fully. Continue opening top. It should fold nicely now.

do you mean the roof material not folding right, or the plastic window not folding right?

My window buckles in the middle when folding it, I hate that. Makes me want to upgrade to a new roof with glass window just so I don't have to think about it.

yeah i went from the plastic window to a glass window and it's so worth it. the problem that you are having is that the bar above your head is supposed to shift toward the rear window when your opening your top. thats why they have elastic straps. when i bought my car last year the straps were worn out so the top didn't fold down completly and it was a PIA to put the tonneau cover on. so like billo says push the bar above your head when the top is half open and push it toward the rear window. then proceed to open the top all the way and you will see that it goes down better.

It's probably the elastic straps. Modifry.com sells replacement straps fairly cheap.

So am I the only one with an AP2 that doesn't always fold all the way down? Maybe 20% of the time when I put the top down it stops short an inch or two higher than normal. I can always tell because the clear plastic wind blocker is either completely unobstructed or it is blocked by the soft top.

All I have to do is raise it up and put it back down but it is a little annoying for being less than 2 years old.

ok, I'll try getting the elastic straps. But do I need 1 or 2 or more? Cuz I noticed it has quantities of how many straps to buy from that website.

the same thing happens to me but it is definitly a culprit of the cold weather. All i have to do is raise it back up until it gets to the point where it 'unfolds with a sudden motion' then bring it back down and it will fit great from then on.
