Default Why is a new key so expensive?

I recently purchased a 2006 S2k. Unfortunately I only received the plain black key. I went to my local Honda dealership today. I was shocked to find out that I was going to end up paying approximately 200 bucks to get a new key. The S2k edition key cost me 100.00 and I had to pay 95.00 for service to program my new key. I feel like this is ridiculously expensive. Did I get screwed? Would it be the same price at another dealer? Does anyone know why it cost so much?

if you purchased your car from a dealer, you should demand the other keys free of charge.

some dealers might toss in the programming free with purchase of a new key.

HTG can program your key from an existing key, so give him a ring and see what he will change. The key will be less than the dealer wanted and I am sure programing will be better too.

I bought my keys from streetkeys.com. Also ordered extra fobs from their affiliate (can't remember the site). The only problem is you have to take your existing key to get copied and programmed.

Wow, I'd bought a spare (black) key from the Honda dealer over here for only $25.00 and programmed.

You have a 2000, he has an 04+. The primary key is differant. The secondary key is far cheaper.
