Why the S2000
A few weeks ago Destiny2002 posted "What pushed your roadster passion?" This was one of my favorite topics. I found it interesting to read that so many of you had had experiences similar to my own. Some of you didn't, and came to roadsters for different and equally valid and interesting reasons. None the less, it was a great topic.
Now I am curious, what made you select the S2000? There are a number of cars out there that are quite satisfactory, why the S?
For me it was the Honda reputation, and the unexplainable feeling that I got just looking at and sitting in the car. It was love at first sight, I had to have this car! I read the specs, all of the commentary, and even test drove the car, but I knew I'd buy it from the beginning. None of the other roadsters would do it for me. Only the S had the magic.
How about you?

I fell in love with the S2000 the day I first saw it. At that time, I was driving a '99 Z28, which was a great car IMO. I was never really into one type of car (ie. muscle cars, imports, roadsters, etc.), so I was pretty open to anything. After awhile, I felt I wanted something different in a car. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I wasn't satisfied with the power of the Z28, but I wanted something more well-balanced, more exclusive, and more fun to drive. And it just so happens that the S2000 fulfilled all those desires. The S2000 is an extremely good value in it's class, and I believe it's the most exclusive. I see Z3's, Boxsters, SLK's, MR-S's all the time. I've gone many days without seeing an S2000 (although I've been seeing a lot more since I moved back to L.A. for school). I won't go into every single aspect of the car that I admire, but I will say that it truly fulfills my desires for a well-balanced, fun-to-drive sports car (until I can afford a 911GT2
).
).
For me, it was a conbination of just about everything. Here are the reasons why choosing the S2000 was a no-brainer
1. Cockpit has a distintly Formula 1 racecar feel
2. Only other car in my price range is the Miata, and I couldn't fit into the Miata
3. The engine is what makes this car what it is! WOW!
4. Go-kart handling
5. Exclusivity, and the fact that not every dingo who ownes too much stock in Starbucks has one
6. The beautiful sleek exotic look!
This has honestly been the first import i've ever owned my entire life. I've owned nothing but Ford's.

I followed it from concept to car show and worked the '99 Tampa show. As soon as I saw it in person I knew I had to have one. I had to be around them from the get go and couldn't afford one. I didn't even drive one until well into the 2001 MY. I finally used, what was to be, my house down payment and am happier with an apartment and an S2K than I would be with a house and a 2000 Civic Si. The only other consideration was a used Boxster and after a long drive, the choice was easy. The biggest hassle was finally getting the right color. Being a dealership employee, the only opportunity I had to buy one was when we would have one sit for a few weeks. They rarely hit the ground unsold, let alone stay there very long.
LOL, this is in no way intended to be a flame, but I think it's funny how people say "sitting in the cockpit feels like you're sitting in an F1 car." I don't think many people have actually sat in an F1 car - thus, how can they compare the cockpits? Just a funny thought....

I have when I 12(10 years ago)! Boy, I was so excited, nevermind the fact that the car wasn't moving, but the thought that it was a real life race car and that I had a chance to sit in it thrilled me. The layout of the S2000 cockpit has a very high resemblance. although I don't remember, I don't think the one I sat in had the digital speedo that our cars have.
I don't know what sitting in a F1 car feels like but for me the S just felt right. It felt the way I thought a sportscar should feel. My experience is limited to my old MG's and Triumphs, but the S felt good and it felt exciting.
I've always like the Miata, but it just doesn't have the "guts". There is something missing. It doesn't feel nearly as exciting as my S.
I've never liked the Boxster, Z-3 or the TT. I can't put my finger on why, I just never have. I think the intent was wrong. Maybe you are right about those too many shares of stocks buying sportscars.
And like some of you have said, the engine, what an engine. Wow!
Maybe best of all, it's a Honda and it'll start every morning.
