Probably because they are good? The S2000 has some rather extreme offsets, so the wheels are made in relatively small quantities, and being imported from Japan doesn't help much, either.

Workmeister 18" are ~$2500
Modulo 17" are ~$2000

So Volks aren't *that* bad.

VOLKS use forged technology that makes the wheel stronger and lighter then most 17'ers and 18'ers, their high quality japenese, imported, wicked offset, race, show, oso nice wheels.(what westsidebilly said)
seriously their not that expensive compared to race rims(HREs). hope that helped
Good Luck on choosing wheels.

And if you're looking at the Volk Racing CE28n, they are the lightest 17" S2000 wheels available at any price. (with the correct offsets that I'm aware of)

Also they're a special limited-issue item that is made in very small quantities just for the S2000 because of the unique offset.

Almost any forged wheel costs as much if not more... the NSX OEM forged wheels are about $3500 a set discounted or about $6000 retail.

The racing harts are about the same weight, but don't have very compatable offsets at +45 rear.

IMHO, a +45 offset simply makes the wheel compatable with more vehicles, not more S2000 compatable. They should be more like +63.
