Default Wide Body Kit

Alright, simply, I want a wide body kit. I want it functional, simple, and I dont want it to look like it came out of a japanese toy factory.

I dont know exactly how to market it, but I plan on designing this myself. (Go ID degree...woo) Basicly, i was wondering if anyone had any technical drawings that I could use to help put vents where they should be blah blah...

Or, if you have any input (constructive please, not, "yeah good idea") I would be more than appretiative.

Oh, and yes, i've seen the gt3, or gt3000 kit or whatever its called... no offence to the designer, as I understand how difficult doing this is, but not my cup of tea.

Thanks guys... oh yeah, and Im new... so... woop-de-doo... right...

I will try and do my best to help you and not turn this into "widebodies are ghey" thread......

Lets look at the best widebody made for the s2k (I didnt say it was great, I said it was the best of whats available....)

Ok....from the side....the car looks very nice.

So lets use this car as a template.....

The side profile is nice....

the rear of this kit is simply hideous, and looks like "it came out of a japanese toy factory.

Next, the front is waaay to wide....tighten up the fenders by about an inch, and we have good stuff.
Also, I would probably delete the lower fender vent. Other than that...I love the kit.

If you fix the rear, and narrow the front a bit, this is by far the best widebody you can get.....the one on sale as s2ki is gross, as you have that dumb trademark "stair" at the door edge.

Hope this gave you some insight.

The front as you say looks great, as do the side skirts, the rear is terrible tho, it just looks "stuck on" as you can see the OEM bumper coming out of it.

Functional places for the vents are for the radiator, intake, front and rear brakes. so if you want funcitonal vents you are looking at one on the hood or bumper for the intake, one for the radiator, one on either side of the front bumper for the front brakes and you could make functional rear vents for the brakes as well. other than that any extra vents would be only cosmetic.

FYI Mastergrade are revising the rear of their kit and its due for release very soon. I may be wrong but I think that lil_ant was going to be the first with the new ass

The MG car has the nicest wheels I have ever seen on this car. Simply stunning.

The kit is nice, but a little bit much for me. Definitely not a fan of the rear bumper.

In all my research, I never came across this kit... hell of a lot better than the other i'd seen... guess that just serves as further proof my my young status on the site...

Thanks for the vent input. I knew what they were for, I was just asking for some sort or referance point, so I could easily draw them in where they should be. If anything else, it did help as a tally as to what i need to make sure to include.

Anyway... here is what I'm thinking. It'll be a few days before i can sit and create the actual drawings... but let me get some pre-feedback. We'll start with the pics that PMantis24 posted in order.

#1. Agreed, WAY to freakin wide up front. Im looking to round out the basis to match the original fender width, maybe an inch wider than stock, but stretch the fender flares gradually to somewhat match the rear. I think it will give a nice subtle accent, while still emphisizing the true S form. I want to scratch the fog lights. They style is just that, style, and i dont think its something "lasting." The "brake" vents i want similar, but to contain a steeper incline from the radiator vent edges, to direct air more towards the brakes. Id also scratch the faux (i watch to home improvment channel too much) diffuser up front. simply put, if you want one, BUY one.

Now skip to the back; #5. Firstly, with how rounded the car has become, stock as well as within this kit, the squared off section in the back has gotta go. just because you have a license plate, doesnt mean you have to emulate it. I do like the arch coming down to match the shape of the trunk. this one is kind of hard to explain without doing it... but basicly remove some of the extra body lines that arent needed, and simplify it. Get rid of the extra vents that arent needed, as well as the wierd diffuser again.

pic #6. I dont really dig the vent on the fender too much... im not sure what, if anything should replace it... I just know i dont like it. I'll have to think on it a bit more. As far as the door "step" unless you mold it out, or provide a door in the kit, im not really sure we can get rid of it. And an insert to cover it would look stupid, SO, im looking to do something similar to whats already be done, but attempt to hide the line in the kit, instead of emphisize it. The side-skirt seems to kind of exist on its own. It doesnt continue the lines from the front very well. But I think the kind of flare idea (see 1) could help to solve that problem. Agreed, the double vents for both front and rear-wheels arent needed. I want to put one on each side. I also want to attempt to keep the rear sided vent wider than the front for all the wheels, as air has a tendancy to tumble and disperse, so I want an easy exit.

I hope i'm not offending anyone, consider it a critique. So, this was my intention, whatcha think?
