Windshield Crack
Yesterday evening a rock hit my windshield and now there is a small crack. Its maybe about 1/8 of an inch now. Do any of those windshield repair kits from pep boys or someplace like that work or will I have to get it professionally replaced? Thanks

The pros can repair it for like $30, takes 20 min. That way at least you won't have to get a whole new windshield, and they would probably guarantee their work. I don't know anything about those DIY kits.

Same thing happened to me about 1 year ago or so. It started out as a very small star type crack. I thought, good, I can just get it repared rather than replaced. WRONG. By the time I got home it was about 3 inches and now almost spreads across the whole windshield. I'll be getting it replaced shortly. If you're going to do this DON'T WAIT because that thing is gonna spread!

I've found rock chips are common with the myS2k. None of my other vehicles seem to take the hits that the honda does. I had the window replaced about a month ago (insurance payed for it) at a cost of around $260. Haven't seen any leaks and thankfully I've avoided any new hits. NOTE: The windshield repair shop re-used the rubber seal (I'm sure there is some official name for this) since according to them, it would take several weeks for them to order a replacement.

Yes, from what i heard the PPG OE glass window is less prone to rock chipping as the honda OEM one.
Its a definate upgrade to use PPG than for a honda OEM one in this case.

It depends on where the crack is as well. It is illegal to repair a crack that is directly in your site line. Most shops won't tell you this, and you can fail a safety inspection if they wanted to for it.

So here is a crack I got on my windshield of my A330 flying across the Atlantic. These windows have 3 panes for safety and they are kept warm to keep them somewhat pliable to survive 30lb turkey vulture impacts at 300 mph. (Canada geese Capt. Sully??) This "crack" happened suddenly and without warning. Made a loud crack/pop sound. I did tighten up my seatbelt a bit more!!
We were able to keep going as the mechanics said they could buff it out on landing, no need to go to Pep Boys, LOL!
