Default Windshield Replacement Poll

I decided to clean all the nats off my windshield only to learn they are ALL pits.

More pits in 5,000 miles than with my daily driver's 120,000 miles! Since I just scheduled a windshield replacement due to a starburst rock crack, I'm now concerned about using Honda's OEM windshield vs. aftermarket.

After researching the subject, it sounds like I'm certainly not alone.

A LOT of owners have had the same problems. There's a general opinion that Honda's glass is very soft and more susceptible to damage. Possibly for safety reasons. I disagree with the opinion it happens due to the upright angle of glass or the it's lower ride height. Both these conditions exsist on my MGA. I been driving it for 30 years over the same roads with the same windshield - no doubt a harder one.

I would love to hear feedback from owners who tried an aftermarket windshield, especially PPG. Also, if anyone has any cures other than never driving or never tailgating, love to hear 'em.

Replaced with PPG.

It is pitting just as quickly as the stock windshield.

hecash - can you weigh the front windshield as long as it's out. Maybe get on a scale with it and without it and subtract the net difference.

I just spoke my scheduled windshield installer, which was recommended by a fellow S2000 owner who had one done last week. I shared my concerns about the OEM they had on order for me, and asked for their opinion on PPG and LOF.

They said glass is glass in their opinon. They were not aware of any particular problem with the S2000. They said of the three mentioned they would recommend OEM. OEM gives the best fit, thus eliminating wind noise or water problems. PPG would be their second choice - they felt they were the best after OEM. They were not to keen on LOF from a fit perspective. They went on to say that some aftermarket stuff is junk, with wavy glass, poor tint, non-orginal color, etc.; so they were quite high on using OEM; even though some insurance companies like to push back.

They were willing to put in whatever I wanted or to wait until I was sure. They deal a lot in Ferrari's, Porsches, and they felt the single biggest reason for our problems would be with the aerodynamics of the vehicle. Maybe it's just the nature of the beast.

My windshield is so pitted that I can map out constelations of stars and distant galaxies...without having to leave the driver's seat!

Honda apparently used some very cheap glass, I have never seen a windshield behave like this. I'm sure the rake doesn't help, but many, it's like I'm looking through a shimmering broken crystal.

And on top of that, it got dinged with a rock and now has a split right down the middle...about 8 inches long.

Replacing it very soon. But I probably would have cracked it myself if the rock hadn't done it! I would most likely have replaced it anyway, though.

Bad call on this glass...

I also replaced mine with a PPG windshield. It seems to be holding up better than the stock glass but I've also been more careful about staying away from and not following closely to anything that can kick up rocks in front of me (i.e. 18-wheelers, pick-up trucks, and SUVs).

I don't think the PPG is any stronger. I think the best thing is just to back off from the car in front.

I picked up a rock and now have lines starting. Had not noticed the pitting on mine till I saw these posts.

I will try and get a weight when I do mine in a few weeks.

Mine was replaced with a PPG about 1000 miles ago, and already has some pits. Ugh!!

This is puzzling. I don't have one pit, crack or spot on my windshield in 6500 miles. I do try to stay well behind trucks on the highway, and I never tailgate anyone.
