Default Wings, Do the OEM wings work?

I've got the wing bug. I think the '04 OEM wing is sweet looking.
But, does it work? Does it actually apply down pressure it speed (70mph/112kph) or there about?

I'm really trying to convince myself that I NEED it, and if it works along with looking great, that would seal the deal

a few people have reported a slight increase in high speed directional stability with the old boot-lid spoiler. I don't know about the new wing, but my instincts would tell me that it doesn't provide any functional benefit. Most street car OEM wings just create drag, and making downforce increases the drag of a wing. they're for appearance, and are trimmed for 0 downforce to minimize added drag.

Wing? No idea, sorry.

However, the S2000 exterior designer personally told a group of us that the front lip and older style decklid spoiler DO provide benefits.

So there's hope the new wing can help too...

Simple aerodynamics would tell us that increased downforce at the rear of the car would tend to cause decreased stability at the front of the car. So at crazy fast speeds, the front end should lighten up, while the rear would be perhaps a bit better planted. If you are planning to drive at Autobahn speeds, then I would not do the rear wing without the front lip spoiler as well.

I have not heard amnyone say the car got twitchy at high without either of those aero aids, so that tells me that they are clearly more for show than go. Plus, if top speed is your goal, both likely reduce it. Certainly, a rear wing that exterts downforce is increasing aerodynamic drag to do so.

Notice the importance of spoilers and wings on the SSM. However, the SSM did get functioning brake ducts.

My experience confirms what Road Rage said. I installed the OEM rear spoiler first and couldn't tell much handling difference at highway speeds. Next, when I installed the OEM front lip, the front end of the car felt a whole lot better planted and stable.

Those front lips and splitters available for the front bumper are more effective at aerodynamics than the rear spoilers for this car.
