Question Winter Storage

Hi there,

Just reading through the various posts, i get the imprsession that most people put their cars away for the winter. Is that the case? I was just wondering why, since both the soft and hard tops are presumably weather resistant. I'm due to get an S2000 at the end of the month and would hate to have to put it in the garage/under a cover until spring...

Cheers, Matt

I plan to store mine for the worst months here in Missouri (Jan and Feb). It rarely snows but I really don't want to be caught in a bad storm in the S2k.

On the other hand, I have been thinking about getting a hardtop and snow tires. It could be fun!

I live in Minnesota and although the winters haven't baeen as bad lately, I just don't don't see the point of trying to make it work if you have the means to drive something else for the those 3-5 months. The s2000 is one of the few cars I've owned that I haven't unloaded in a couple years. I still get a smile on my face when I drive it and I plan on keeping it for a while

I live in Minnesota too...many owners have remarked that snow tires and some driving skill are all that is required to get through the winters. I store mine from the end of November through mid-March (at least, that's the way it's worked out the last couple years).

I simply didn't want to expose the car to all the salt and sand we use up here, and I have another perfectly good car. ymmv.

There are some good threads with checklists.

It says you live in the UK. Shouldn't you ask the guys in the UK forum? What N. Americans (and those elsewhere) do may be totally different from what you do over there.

I store my car over the winter. Even though my commute is very short, I don't want to take the car out in that weather.

1. My car is lowered with a body kit. I don't want it to be a snowplow.
2. I spent too much money on the body kit and the paint job to get it sprayed with salt off of the car in front of me.
3. I don't want the underbody of the car to rust due to the salt used for ice control in this area.
4. I don't want to risk getting stuck in the snow and having some yokel try to tow my car out.
5. While I may be perfectly capable of controling MY car in the snow and ice, but there are FAR too many morons on the roads to risk getting hit.

Besides, I have one of these:

So why bother with snow tires and a hardtop.

I'm waiting for two pictures. One of Emil's car under the covers and one of XVipers in the snow. ...I did a search on snow a few months back.
