Default Work around for cold 1-2 shift crunch

Most people are familiar with double clutching a down shift and blipping the throttle while in neutral to bring the engine and input shaft of the transmission up to speed before engaging the next lower gear for a smoother down shift.
If I double clutch on the up shift between 1st and 2nd gears, without blipping the throttle in neutral, I am slowing the input shaft speed of the transmission before engaging 2nd gear and I do not get the cold morning 1-2 crunch. Although this slows my shifting speed, when the car is cold I am am typically driving on residential streets, so the speed of my shifting is not critical. Anyone else have similar experience?

I have the cold 1-2 crunch as well. I just pause a little longer going from 1 to 2. So its clutch in, move towards neutral, 2nd gear, clutch out. I found that giving a pause helps out a lot.

OP is talking about upshifting, so you dont want to gas (3rd step) I've been telling people to do this but there are some people who just dont believe it'll work.

it works on large trucks without synchros, so it should work fine on your car.

This is what i've been doing when the car is cold. I still get the grind sometimes even when the car is warmed though.

Use the pause method and shift slowly. Makes my morning traffic light starts a little slow. Yet to get the horn.
