Well, its in the shop right now. He said they would look at it, and let us know what was wrong. Whether or not they will cover it is still to be decided. And yes, i do normally hover over my car when i have work done at other places. That truely tends to piss mechanics off.

Stories like these make me smile everytime I hear someone say how useless it is to change your own oil. Always double check other people's work. That shop would have to be extremely generous to compensate you at all, you have no proof and no case whatsoever. Expensive lesson to learn, your insurance may be able to help you depending on your coverage. Perhaps you could get the shop to supplement the cost somewhat, finding a used engine and doing the work yourself will minimize the cost [though if you don't change your own oil it may be a little over year head]. Good luck with it though, when out of town while consulting, I had at least 1/2 the shops that did my oil changes mess something up, including leaving the oil cap on the engine instead of putting it where it goes.

No, im somewhat competant when it comes to cars. I do almost all of the moderate to minor work on my Jeep, but i figured $15 extra wasn't worth the hassle of having to jack up the S just for an oil change. The shope ordered a new oil cap from Honda today, and they said they would road test it tomorrow when the cap comes in. In case I didn't make it clear earlier the car is driveable just it makes a few unfriendly noises, so hopefully it isnt to bad.

Get a fumotovalve I can change my oil in less than 10 minutes and I don't have to get under my car at all.

BTW, when you have your oil changed make sure they use an OEM PCX filter as it was specifically designed for our cars. Aftermarket filter usually do not allow for sufficient oil flow.

A guy working where my son works left a an oil cap off and about a week later the lady came in and said he engine was ruined. Their insurance paid for a new engine and he was fired the next day. Jiffy Lube rare moment!

If the car hasn't lost much oil, then the cap being left off is not the problem. Have the problem diagnosed by someone other than the shop who may have damaged the engine.

Regarding the play lawyers on here, don't listen to them. I get so sick of this sort of thing, people with opinions, who don't have any knowledge of the law. The plaintiff must prove a case, this is true, but the standard in a civil case is very easy to meet. Go for a jury trial. Most car owners don't check their oil cap when they get their oil changed. They'll sympathize with you.
