Default WOW Comtech SuperCharger must Suck

Hey Guys check out the August edition of Motor Trend they tested the Comtech S2000 and the power numbers are horrible. With Super Charger and everything hook up they did a 13.45 in the 1/4 mile. The Plus side is that the suspension is tight on that s2000. i am really disapointed right now.

I wouldn't be dissapointed... unless you bought the s/c.

I think the s/c'ed guys on this board would be able to give a more accurate assessment than most magazine reviewers though.

Motor Trend (and most other car mags) doesn't bother to tell you conditions like temperature, elevation, humidity, etc that the car was tested under. These all have a profound impact, especially heat and elevation.

If they tested an SC'd S2000 and a NA S2000 side by side, you'd probably see more truth in the performance.

actually I think it blows more than sucks. that's the idea behind a SC anyways.

but I really hate the motor trend and C&D reviews, they all suck for the most part - if they only had Sev behind the wheel, then there would be much better #'s.

Yeah, I wasn't very impressed with that article either. I think the stock numbers they used were from when they originally tested the S2000 almost two years ago. Those are the same numbers that they've had posted in the back for a while now.

More accurate number would have been had if they had tested the Comptech S2000 before and after all the mods, in the same conditions.

Keep in mind that these are also the people who destroyed the differential in that car part way through their "evaluation." Who knows how many runs they actually took when they got those times.

Consider several things in analyzing this report:

1. MT usually gets the best ETs of the major mags, primarily because they aren't afraid to beat on cars.

2. ET is largely a factor of driver and launch traction. Trap speeds are more indicative of available power. In most major mag tests the stock S2K averages 98-100 mph through the traps. The Comptech car has now tested out at 105 (SCC) and 108 mph (MT). That's definitely indicative of a power increase. The problem is that the Comptech system exacerbates the S2Ks power curve problems. That means, as the testers stated, that bog or spin is even more of a problem and launching is a bitch.

3. Dyno numbers are not always indicative of real world numbers, for a number of reasons. First, a dynojet does not perfectly simulate the real world. Second, a quarter mile run involves a pass through 4 gears, working primarily in a narrow rpm window. This usually means that the engine is building more heat than on a single gear dyno pass and there may be other behavior issues as well.

In the end, the Comptech SC definitely adds power (all you have to do is drive one to be sure of that). However, the real world trap speeds indicate that the effective power may be somewhat less than the 330-340 hp the dynojet indicates. Perhaps more aong the lines of 310 hp, +/-.

S2peed,

What kind of tires were on the car?

If they were running some 18's...it's going to loose some major time on the launch...
