Default Wreck S2000

Long time lurker, with a very old account (2004?) that I can no longer remember PW/login. I created a new account for some input. I hit black ice on a bridge going to work

and hit a light pole. The damage is not worth fixing (4-8k estimate), because I only had liability I couldn't see myself fixing the s2k with 168K mile/check engine light/mild engine oil leak/loose catalyst converter/etc..etc..etc. Its been a awesome car for the pass 17 years. The asking price as a wrecker is $2400. I was thinking if I should try to part out or take the $2400? I also damaged my hardtop, last picture is the damage but the hardtop is intact with no major damage.

Well I can tell you OEM hardtops are going north of $2400 that is for sure. Not sure I grasp the damage to the HT but if it is minor and easily fixed it should be a desired item. You could part out the engine and trans despite the milage and the mild oil leak but there is the time and hassle factor involved in doing that.

So sorry it happened. Were you traveling on a straight line and the back just went out?

Yes, It was a highway with a speed limit of 55mph. I was going 48mph in a straight line when I hit this bridge that I didn't even know was there even thou I drive up this mountain 5 days a week. It was a small bridge that I never took into consideration until bad weather was a factor. At 55-60mph with good weather, this bridge was a blur in the side window. My rear tires was at 60% according to the estimator, he stated the bridge I cross is a known black ice spot because the tarmac is higher than the cement bridge which prevents the slush from draining. Therefore; the slush becomes ice and the snow become more slush on top of the black ice. I wrecked in 4 seconds according to my dash cam and there was no way to recovery.

Take the hardtop off along with the mounting hardware. The insurance company won't give you what it is worth. They are been going for $3500+ so long as you have the hardware. The car is likely totaled sadly. Sorry for your loss.

I would salvage that HT, engine, transmission and anything else that I thought was in good enough shape to sell. Sorry for the loss

I'd be happy to buy that hardtop off your hands, as would many others.

Parting it out should net you double of what the insurance/wreckers offered, if not even more.

I bet you could get some $$$ from that beautiful red interior, too!

As mentioned earlier, if you can put in the time, I bet you'd make a dime (or two)!

I’d be in for the Hardtop as well. At the very least keep that from insurance

I'm really sorry that this happened to you. As already noted, there are probably still a surprising number of intact items on your car that others would be willing to pay for. You could likely sell these for a fair amount of money if you are willing to invest the time and effort, but it would likely be fairly time consuming.

17 years?? I would be heart broken. Sorry this happened to you

Did you get a couple repair estimates? Although even at the low end of $4K to repair, it sounds like you aren't too interested in going that route.

What about selling the hard top to help finance the repairs? I dunno, I just hate for someone to lose their S2K of 17 years this way.
