Carmax does their own body/paintwork, it could be as simple as the bumper and sideskirt were scratched up so they chose to paint it. If the VINs are intact I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I thought it might have been work they did "in house" too. But they car has numerous nicks in the paint, some rather large even. The car looks like it's been through a war (paint wise) So I'm not pretty sure they didn't do it. And it would be awesome to have them buy it back, but I'm too in love with it! I would only trade it for one that wasn't red, and had nice paint. The S is by far the best car I've ever owned.

Bingo, most of the ones I've seen do a shitty job too so overspray, etc doesn't surprise me.
