Default XM install

Hi all, did anyone have the xm installed on the S2K? The dealer wants 444.00 for parts and 330 to install. Is it possible for me to install?

Holy ! what a rip-off! How may hours of labor is it for $330!? It should only take one, 2 tops.

I don't have it in the S, but putting Sirius into my wife's Passat only cost us like $450 out the door. The S is not much more complex... You could install yourself, but unless you really know your stuff I'd opt. for a pro to keep everything looking really clean, just not one that's trying to rip you off.

Just noticed that point in the post. Ask around for good stereo install places in your area, and go with a reputable one who's work someone will let you see. It'll cost 1/2 as much as a dealer. There is no reason to spend that kind of money to have that done at the dealership.

Get an aftermarket stereo with XM in it, the antenna and such is easier to put in and that way you don't have to modify any internal panels to mount the XM display. I say do it yourself!

Make sure the head unit also works with the dash controls, very important part.

I found the OEM XM kit for $407 downloaded the install instructions I can do this myself. I really don't want to lose those controls.

There have been discussions of this in the electronics forum.

I personally would get the Alpine XM head unit, the terk antenna, and the Lucid dash controls.

1. This would keep your controls plus add some new ones.
2. The antenna can go inside the secret compartment or on the back of the compartment where the top folds down and you won't loose signal. Many people have done this. You don

i have the xm commander and total cost was 150 bucks, given my friend instaleld it but its a piece of cake if you have an aftermarket headunit. I am still waiting for eclipse to make the sirius module but until then the xm is working out. I installed the display unit where that little hole is near the roof button by the glove box. if that helps 400 bucks is a rip off for just teh module
