XM Radio
I love my S2k but it has one MAJOR flaw. Well okay this flaw may only exsit in people like me but i do LOVE music. Every car i own has a custom system, however the S is a unique case. Not only don't i have the space i would like, but i have interesting issues like dash controls and Antenna mouting options. Whoops did i mention an antenna, yes thats because i've got an interesting preposition for you fanatics. XM radio is the most amazing thing i've ever heard, CD quality anywhere in the US. Now XM uses an antenna mounted on the highest flat surface of a car. One little problem, I've got a hard top. That would mean theres sometimes another flat surface on my car higher than the reccomended trunk mount. It's not the prettiest antenna but it's small and makes anything worth it, comments? Now with XM i need a new head unit and i want the dash controls to work, i want the poineer head unit does anyone know where to find the control unit for them? Speakers, i don't want to mount tweeters anywhere seems like too much drilling and such for my baby. I would rather install full range speakers in the door's and either a sub or bass shakers. with a sub i was thinking the infiniti Bass Cube, or a Bazooka tube, or even one of the enclosures that fit's where the tools are supposed to go in the trunk as a last resort. But with the shakers where would i mount them how would they sound/feel and would i be able to hear the bass cube over road noise and exaust note from the trunk? does a CD changer fit under the seat? thanks for any help guys Mike
Take your stereo dollars and put them in the only other FCC licensed satellite radio company due to debut in February; Sirius Satellite Communications. If you have enough invest in both XM and Sirius (Tickers: XMSR & SIRI). High risk but if you've heard satellite radio you know it's the future. I hold major shares in both companys. I bought my S2000 with Yahoo dollars............
$10 a month for radio?!

I like the bantering from the DJs.

I would recommend an alpine headunit over the pioneer...pioneers are known for great AM/FM reception (XM negates this benefit) not for CD quality or a long life. A 6-disc changer would fit under the seat. A bass tube, IMO, is not worth the money and would look ugly in the trunk. Sub solutions offers a box that would fit where the spare tire is. It is a very skinny box and the only sound that comes out of the box comes through a small port that could be aimed right behind that fake vent behind the seat. Any sub in the trunk will most likely cause violent rattles. I know mine sure does. Do not buy bass shakers. They do an awful job of mimicking bass. Yes you feel bass, but you hear bass. Tweeters can be mounted on the dash or cut into the door if you have a mounting pod. Lucid, a sponsor, sells a unit that allows one to keep the dash controls. Also there is no advertising at all on xm radio. Good luck on mounting that antenna! No suggestions there! Hope this helps some.
thank you all for your feedback, some comments.... you are all worried about XM making it, lack of advertising and so on. XM is wonderful i have heard it, i own a 93 Ford Crown Victoria with XM in it. AMAZING!!!
, XM is here to stay, My feeling is that XM will dominate the east coast and Sirus will dominate the West. ok so bass shakers are out, you said the sub rattles, what exactly is it that is rattling? the trunk? the tools? theres a company that makes a sub box that fit's in the bottom of the trunk and holds two subs 10's or 12's just right there in the bottom where the tools would go, that takes up no extra room and the tools fit in a bag on top of the spare. Not a bad deal but i'd like to hear it.
I love the Crown Vic 93' with less than 40000 full pioneer system, sounds great, run's great, and the back seat is huge

I was just taking a look at some XM receivers today. I think they're a great option, especially if since they all pretty much have AUX inputs on them. I like this idea because I have an iPod, and like having access to MP3s.
Anyway, I'm seriously considering the Pioneer. I've almost always gone with the Alpine units. I'm kind of bored with them. I know it's a lame excuse, but it's the best I can do for now.
You should probably invest in a good amp if you're going to replace the speakers. I'm using a Phoenix Gold amp. The sound's really clean.
As far as speakers go, I have MB Quart tweeters mounted just above the factory screens. There wasn't much drilling involved and they're very cleanly mounted.
I can't recall what I have in place of the factory ones. I keep thinking they're JL Audio, but they're only provinding a mid-range bass. The real bass comes from a custom box that it's back up near the firewall on the passenger side. There I have two 8 inch JL Audio subs in a custom enclosure. You can't beat the sound. It sounds great with the top down going 100Mph. But then again it could just be type of music I listen to.

XM and Sirius have both signed contracts with automakers. Expect to see these radios as options on 2002 models going forward. As for 10 bucks a month for radio....yea..yea...that's what they said when cable TV came out. Who would pay for soemthing we get for free know? Go listen to satellite radio and then invest in some stock!
What rattles? The license plate rattles immensely. Also I have an OEM trunk spoiler and I can also hear that rattling. You might be able to fix the license rattle by unscrewing the plate, and putting some dum-dum behind the plate. Also, your local stereo store should have some sound deadening material that could be placed under the carpet and on top of the trunk (but then you will have to make a piece of carpet for the top, or buy the muz trunk saddle lid to hide that material). It all depends on the style of music you listen to. If you listen to alternative or classic rock then you should be able to get enough bass into the car to satisfy you without it rattling. If you listen to rap or techno or any other style that has a lot of bass then you are going to have to get the subs into the car or put a lot of sound deadening material in your trunk. I am working on a solution, and if it works out, I will pm you will details.
