Younger people driving the S2000
It seems that the older crowd has a very strong opinion regarding younger people owning an S2000. Please, voice your opinion here. It's an interesting subject.
As for my opinion regarding this matter, I do not have an S2000 (but do I ever lust for one). I own a Ford Probe that I paid for myself and am on full scholarship at college. I'm working right now to buy my own motorcycle.
That's just to put my opinion on this subject in perspective, not meant to brag or put myself down for not being able to afford an S2000.
It does upset me a little to see younger people my age driving the car. Upset is a harsh word, jealous is probably a better one to use in this case. I don't hate the person who is driving the car. I know that if my parents bought me one, I wouldn't object at all. Some people are just more fortunate than I am, that's no reason to have any disdain for the person.
I saw at Starbucks the other day and I saw this young girl come out of a brand new G35 coupe. My friend said that she received it from her parents as her first car for a Hannukah present.
Is that unfair? Yes. But is that life? Of course it is. All I have to do is look up at my S2000 brochure and keep dreaming. She's my motivation, along with taking care of my family.
If these kids have their parents buy them a car that's worth more than anything my entire family has ever owned, good for them. Their life is not mine and to put down others based on their fortune is just plain disrespectful. That's a slap in the face of their parents who worked hard to be able to afford their kids these things.

My thoughts? Don't worry about what others have.
There could be any number of reasons somebody would have this car or that car but the bottom line is that if mommy or daddy did not buy it then the youngster is probably in debt trying to pay for it.

I think you nailed the hammer on the head for the most part. No matter where you go there will always be people who have more money then you and get more spoiled then you.
You know me, I do drive a s2000 and yes I'm only 18. I'm very fortunate to have such loving parents that they let me use it whenever I want.
To a lot of this community (who doesn't like this), its just the fact that younger kids are driving their car so they feel not so "on top of the mountain" anymore.
I'll never hate someone who was given a car from their parents, I just hate the kid who gets it from their parents and are completly irresponsible with it. Going around showing off, bragging about it, saying THEY bought it (NOT), and most of all these idiots are usually the owns to crash the car and go running back to mommy and daddy to get another. That annoys me.
I learned to drive in this car (let alone just a manuel) and I have lots of respect for the car. I've taken it to the track and am aware of the limits and have yet to crash, god forbid. Its not because they are young (becuase I am), its because they are show off idiots.
Thats just my little schmele

I'm 18 and I have plenty of rich and spoiled friends who all drive nice cars that were given to them by their parents. The thing that pisses me off is that usually those are the kids who are never happy with what they have. Once they get a new rsx s, they want an s2000, once they get the s2000, they want an m3.
Those are the kids I think most of the older people on this forum are talking about. But there are also some 18 years olds out there that are working their asses off for this car, so don't be quick to judge.

a friend at age 18 received a new 911 gt2
happy for him and his family's fortunes
personally as a teenager, i'm just happy that i'm fortunate enough to drive around in a convertible and am able to enjoy the sun
people who complain about young kids blah blah blah have too much time on their hands

im sorry but honestly, doesnt matter how much money you have or should i say your "parents" have, but giving a child, yes you are 18 you are a child imo, a 35K car is horrible parenting. How on earth can you ever learn the value on money and more importantly credit?? Theres no way in the world an 18year old is going to get credit to buy a car like this unless they are a full time job earning quite a bit of money and it would still be hard to get a bank to approve you without a cosigner. its just setting your kids up to be spoiled brats when they grow up, I know because my brother is one, and was given an expensive car and now at 24 with his first high paying job is looking to spend 80K. Its ridiculous.
I will never buy my child a car @ 18 over $20K. They will get something similar to what i got, a Civic. Then they will also pay for it and insurance either through a job or through earning good grades, but no way in the world would i hand over the keys to a car like the S. Secondly, you've only been driving for 2 years, again, no way should an 18 year old be driving a car with this type of handling or power. Sorry I just feel its very very irresponsible.
my 2 cents
