Default **New 2005**... to me

Picked up the car tonite, but have a few questions.....

Car is mint, idles quietly, no vibrations on the highway! Silk...

Question #1 - Pushing the starter button, it seems almost a little slower then any other car as far as crank speed, battery?

2nd - Is second gear one of those gears you really need to be sure you hit the first time? I had a grind going into second at high RPM, startled me a bit to say the least. This was a full out grind. My Type R Integra had some biting in 3rd, but not like this was going into second. I HOPE it was me getting used to the short throw, and trying to time my leg to hand.

3rd - What are the stock clutches like in the car? When pounding through the gears, it almost sounds like the clutch engages a little slow, instead of a bang, bang, bang on engagement. Hard to explain via text. It isnt like a major slip, but just seems to take more then a half a second to seem like it has full bite. Clutch delay or something, or am I waaaay off, and it will need a clutch in the near future?

Other than those three things, car is prestine! I will get pics of it on the weekend and post! I got thumbs up all the way home from fellow travellers on the highway.

the ap2 has a clutch delay valve. do a search and you'll find that some ap2 owners remove it.

Does the clutch delay work the other way as well? As in when you push the clutch in, there is a delay in disengagement?

There's no delay in disengagement, but the syncros only work so fast. Lots of AP2 owners have reported a grind when shifting into 2nd at high rpms - they are shifting faster than the syncros can work, and its frustrating.

My car looks EXACTLY like yours in your sig! NICE!

So, just slow down the 1-2 shift, and it should be fine?

1) start up is a bit sluggish, that is normal

2) 2nd gear can crunch/grind when cold if you are not careful, I actually double clutch the first 1 or 2 shifts. That is normal. After a few minutes of driving this should go away completely.

3) AP2 have heavier flywheels than the AP1 and there is also a delay valve. this makes clutch engagement a little wooden feeling. Normal.

1. startup is slow when it's cold. check the battery just in case.

3. take out the clutch delay valve

3. do you really need to shift that hard? Its just hard on the drivetran. What you were feeling was the CDV doing its job to give the rest of the car a break. If you want to beat on your car you can do a search on how to take it out, but I keep mine in cuz I know it was there for a reason. It feels like clutch slipping, but you will only engave the CDV if you try.
