Run a search, also check youtube for videos on it. its a loud rapid "playing card hiting the spokes of a bicycle wheel" sound. Billman has explained this very well

me too!!!!

There are many TCT issues with Greek forum members who are using Amsoil engine oil. I don't know if it has anything to do with the oil but it seems most of the guys who have TCT failing are using this brand oil , including me d?
interesting, it seems that the only particular pattern that has emerged on these boards suggesting TCT failure and oil brand have any sort of connection indicates that Mobil 1 is theoretically the oil most prone to "cause" the issue, if that makes any sense.

The overall suggestion by the camp blaming oil for TCT failure seems to be to switch to Amsoil, ironically enough.

Then again, all of those theories have more or less dissipated since Billman (through his diligent and much-appreciated research) has determined that the worm gear is the underlying issue.

edit - whoops, kinda botched up the quote. oh well.

i run amsoil and havent had a tct failure in 58k miles. nearly every single tct thread i've read on this forum involves the person running mobil1 oil.

back when i had about 20k miles or so, i couldn't get my hands on amsoil and i needed an oil change bad so i put in mobil 1 synthetic. a strange (possibly tct) noise appeared on startup, but the moment i switched back to amsoil it was gone again.

Amsoil is one of the best oils out on the market, mobile 1 is one of the worst

This is good to know. But unfortunately this is my experience. Many issues with people using Amsoil.. So what is this "sandblasting thing?" How do you do it?

I had it bad and I was running Syntec at the time - the Mobil one element is a consistent one, but its certainly not the only oil that "causes" the problem.

is it only a consistent one because so many people use it?
