Question *HELP* Engine Stutter

I'm going to try to give all the details so that I can hopefully get a good answer.

Here's what happens:
I'm driving, I give it a little gas, revs get up to around 5,500 (any gear) and then the car struggles to accelerate. It just stutters and cuts out. No odd noises that i can hear, it just WON'T GO.

Here's the scenario:
-year 2000, S2000
- 35 degrees (eliminates heatbog)
-On I-75, no traffic
-3/4 tank of gas
-No fuel system problems
-Happens at 5K RPMs through redline
- Car is running extremely RICH ( I get about 16-18 mpg and I drive pretty passively)

What to do????? Will a tuned VAFC II (tuned to run a bit leaner) possibly fix the problem???

Or should I do the whole, fuel filter, fuel pump, valve seals, sensors, replacements. "Guess and check" if you will??

PLEASE HELP, I'm freaking out.

And don't even say, "Map Sensor Whack."

Sorry, but those are classic symptoms of MAP sensor problems. Have you checked the connections on it?

No, only the mods listed. My oil level is fine and fresh, all the wiring connected to the map sensor is secure, but I think my first step towards solving this is going to be purchasing a new map sensor (50 bucks) and hopefully that will fix it. My car is running really rich though, do you guys think that a VAFC would be helpful to me (performance, engine safety, maybe a little better gas mileage?)

Hopefully you are aware that the engine is rev-limited when the engine is cold. You temp gauge should show three bars before you venture that far up on the tach.

That won't explain the fuel mileage, but it will explain the behavior.

I only mention that because you say it's cold and you don't specifically say the car is properly warmed up.

That's a good suggestion, but I'm OCD when it comes to warming my car up. My friends make fun of me because I'll sit in a parking lot for five minutes until the temp gauge shows two bars before I even move the car. And I never take it over 5K until it shows three bars. I'm pretty sure it's the map sensor. I'm going to mess with it and see how it runs and possibly replace the sensor. If that doesn't remedy it I'll be calling on you guys again for some more suggestions.

Would any of you know if a VAFC will get me some better gas mileage? I honestly get about 16-18 city and I don't drive the car very hard.

Hmmm this sounds exactly like what happened to me about a year or so ago...Check all the wires (some may be loose) from your VAFC to where ever they are going. I went through alot of trouble tearing apart things on my car just to find out it was some stupid wires.
