JL9000. Give this a try.

I let it warm up for about 3 minutes in neutral with the clutch up. Then I drive a block in 1st then shift. When you shift to 2nd for the first time, rev her up to 3500- 4000, fully depress cluth, then start the 1-2 shift.

If it blocks you, gradually add pressure. If it wouldn't go in, don't force it, just double clutch and then put it in. Your tranny will get bette as it wears in.

He is asking about '03s. You've got an '02, right?

What you experieneced was not grinding. The 1st-2nd gear grind is a nasty metal crushing action, you can hear and feel it, and you would not be able to put it in 2nd, you would have to go back to neutral and shift to 2nd again.
