Default 100 octane does make a difference

All,

Just pour a whole tank full of racing fuel from Unocal 76 in Newport Beach and even though there was no horsepower increase the throttle response is more agressive. I can feel a slight rush upon VTEC. I am not a mechanic but maybe it's just a mind trick but I definitely notice a difference on how the car drives.
Definitely putting in another tankful on my drive to Las Vegas tomorrow.

I noticed a big 'butt dyno" power increase in my Prelude with NOS Octane Booster. Didn't notice it in the S2k. I suspected the Prelude's H22 of detonation at high RPM but I suspect that something goes into Octane Booster (and racing fuel) that's more than just increased octane.

Anyone know?

Also look for gray soot on your tailpipes, 100 octane messes up your O2 sensor. And Check for lower mileage. I put half a tank of 100 octane and my mileage dropped by 50 miles

I have a 6 year/100K mile extended warranty on the car. That should cover the replacement of oxygen sensor.

The 76 100-octane race gas should not damage your O2 sensor, that is why they are allowed to sell it at the pump, and you can put it into your street car. The real test with 100 octane would be after you drove with it for awhile, perhaps 2-3 tanks full so the ECU can learn that it has a higher octane fuel to work with. Learning in the ECU take a bit of time.
