118k Miles - 1st time Clutch Replacement

118k Miles - 1st time Clutch Replacement
I'm quickly approaching 119k miles and I've been replacing parts here and there on the S2000. Several folks have told me to :WAIT: until the clutch goes to replace it or until I notice it really giving out...
Truth is, the clutch still feels pretty solid...but I'm thinking that since it has _NEVER_ been replaced, I should go ahead and order the replacement parts and schedule the install.
The parts alone come to about $700. What do you guys think the install runs (hours wise)? I know labor rates are all different.
Also, what is the usual life span of a clutch (I know it depends...but average life span is what I'm thinking). Thanks!

about what percent is your driving in stop & go conditions?
and how much is it highway?
I do about 60-70% stop & go and i'm at 40K miles with a strong holding clutch.
i have also done a good share of autocrossing last season. almost every weekend. and a good amount of spirited driving on a regular basis.
my WAG is that my clutch will hold out until 55K miles

Thanks...that's what I keep hearing...but realistically, what's the life span of a clutch?? I mean, sure...a lot of the miles on my S are indeed highway...but lots and lots of 'em are also on the Dragon, track and AutoX. Not to mention some _very_ spirited drives...
The Dragon alone could wear down any clutch...
Now that I depend on the S as my daily driver, I just don't want to be "caught" with a car that won't go.
Being that I've never had a clutch go out... (my first S had 40k miles when I traded her for the '02)... do all clutches start to SLIP before they go out??? Or do some suddenly just _fail_??
