Default 18 inch Wheels

Might be a stupid question but what is the disadvantage of having 18 inch wheels on the S?

Increasing unsprung weight is a disadvantage, as is the ease in getting the wrong offsets causing tire interference with suspension components or body work. Harsher ride on the street with lower profile tires and potential for rim bending in potholes, etc., are other disadvantages.

Given the correct offsets, and decent weight, one can get 18" x 9" in front and 10" wide in back to be able to fit 245f/285r tires, which as evidenced in OTC competition, can be formidable on the track!

I just put 18" wheels on my car with no suspension mods and it rides great. Everyone says that you get a harder ride, but really it isn't that bad. I would say that it is slightly harder. Most of the time you can't even notice.

Prolene, any idea what offsets they needed to run 18x9 and 18x10 front/back?

No, sorry. I did park next to an M5 today and the wheels were 18" with 275/35 at the rear. 285 in the S2000 would be awesome.

...you're going to want to shoot for mid 70's in the rear but I don't know about x9's in front running 245's ..... it's going to need to be 65mm to clear the outside fender but it seem like you might have clearance issues on the inside .......

RT- do you have any offset recomendations for 18 x 8 (225/40) and 18 x 9 (265/35)???

I don't want to rub, even with lowering!

yeah 55mm up frt on a x8 will work well and anything around a 63mm w/ the x9 will be great for the rear .... lower away

BTW, w/ the 265/35 your gearing does get a little taller, not a big deal but w/ that and the 18's your 60' times would really suck ....... but since we're not drag racing , who cares! Right? That would be a nice set-up if you can find some wheels w/ those specs at reasonable price .... please do tell if you find some.

None at a reasonable price. The only wheels I've seen with the correct offsets are custom made (or the Modulos).

The only off the shelf wheels that I am considering are the Work S2Rs in 18 x 8 and 18 x 9, with +51 and +64 offsets.

I tend to agree with your post about the front offset, because the Modulos are +55 for a 7 inch rim, and +62 for the 8.5 inch wheel.

I don't think the 265/35 on the S2R will clear in the back, either. The Yoko AVS YR in this size is only 25.3 inches in diameter, but that is still larger than OEM, increasing the chances that it will rub.

The Yoko AVS 225/40 YR fronts are also slightly larger in diameter, at 25.2 inches. Together, these tires provide the closest stagger to OEM that I have seen, while still retaining nearly identical diameters. I think the increases in tread width vs. OEM are something like F=8.4% and R=9.4%. Because the tire compound is slightly harder at 180, vs. 140 for the OEMs, I don't think the increase in tire width will be too much for the car.

Any opinions on the S2Rs with these tires, or on other 18 x 8 and 18 x 9 wheels that I can use with these tires???
I think these wheel sizes will also be perfect to use with the PZero Corsa- but for track only!

Just a quick note. Treadwear ratings are not universal, so one manufacturer's 180 can be another's 140. This is something that has to change but for right now, each manufacturer has their own guidelines and methods for assigning treadwear ratings. FWIW, I haven't come across any tires that are stickier than the SO-2's.
