Default 1st gear grinding...

Hey everyone, maybe someone can give me some insight on a possible fix to my problem. Lately within the last 2-3 weeks I've noticed 1st gear grinding pretty bad but only above 6K RPM's. All the other gears above 6K RPM's are fine. Under 'normal' driving conditions the car is not problematic through all gears. I've had my 2nd and 3rd gear synchros replaced about 6 months ago so I'm not sure if thats relevant. I have no modifications to the car and its an 02' with about 56K on the odometer. Has anyone ever had this problem? Thanks. By the way the car was warmed up before hand.

No I haven't tried down shifting into 1st. I don't want to make anything worse than it is. Basically from a roll in 1st above 6k it grinds. Even slowly accelerating above 6k then shifting, it grinds. Any other time its all gravy.

Correct. The 1st to 2nd gear transition. No other gear.

Well, this is useful information. It tells us that your transmission fluid is pretty fresh, so that's probably not it. We also know that someone was inside the transmission recently, I suppose it would be possible that something wasn't put back together correctly.

But if that was the case I would have expected these problems to appear almost immediately after the 2nd and 3rd synchros were replaced.

Do any of your gears feel notchy once the car is warmed up? Do you have a hard time getting the car into first gear from a stop? I'm kind of thinking that the clutch might not be fully disengaging causing the grinding. If this isn't the case then I'm out of ideas.

When the car is warmed up, shifting is fine. No notchiness what so ever. I have no problems getting into 1st gear from a stop. Its just that finnicky 1st gear above 6k RPM's. I'm stumped.

Wouldn't it be a second gear grind than? If you just had your synchro's replaced in 2nd and 3rd, I would think improperly installed. If the clutch were not fully disengaging it would effect all gears, right? Take it back where you had fixed and show it to them.
