Default 1st gear lockout

Has anybody ever had a 1st gear lockout from a stand still? It's been happening more and more often.. I'll be sitting at a light in neutral, then clutch down, and i shift into first from neutral and i'm locked out.. Only way that i've found to fix it is to rev it up slightly and then through it into first.

Happens to me, but only when the car is cold. Haven't pinned it down to being either clutch or synchro related, but given that it goes away when the car has been driven a few miles, I'd say it's the tranny.

You can do one of 2 things to make the entry into 1st easier.
1. Push your clutch to the floor and WAIT about 3 seconds BEFORE moving the stick to 1st.
2. Push clutch in and immediate shift into 2nd (or 4th if more convenient), then to 1st (with clutch on floor the whole time).
I've done this as a matter of habit on every high performance manual car I've owned. It just stops the tranny from spinning to make 1st easier to get into.

Hm.. So basically this is a normal thing and i shouldn't worry about it? The car isn't moving at all. I'm stopped and then i'm locked out of first..

Not being in your car, I'm not about to tell you it's normal. I'm just making some suggestions. If the suggestions help to minimize or eliminate the issue, then I'd say it is "closer" to normal. If my suggestions do not do a thing for you, then you may have a problem.

Just as a suggestion, I can tell allmost without looking at the miles that my tranny needs a fluid change, when it starts to behave like this.

I do what xviper suggests in point 2. If I can't get into first on first try, I go into second then first. This works 99% of the time. I don't try and force it in.

Mine has never done this till tonight. I ground the hell out of second (witch is rare but some times during a quick shift it only goes halfway into second and when i let the clutch up it grinds and pops out. its been doing it since new.) And then at the next light i could not get into first. it was like the lock out was on. I started in second cause the light turned green and at the next light i still could not get it. So i gave it like 50 lbs of force and i went a little and then i just went in and out till it was ok. But the rest of the night its been sticky..... Anny help would be great. We may have the same issue. I have the certified warenty will honda help me?

thanks for searching! you could try honda, but i doubt they will fix it without much hassle. might try changing the Trans fluid more often.
