Default 2 Thumbs up for xviper

I was at Autobac (Largest Automotive Superstore in Southern Cali) yesterday. I went to get my Water Temp gauge installed, was there from 2pm - 7:30pm!
Techs didn't know what they were doing... they couldn't figure out why my gauge wasn't reading correctly...
They changed out a new gauge and new sender but same thing...
They told me to just go home and come back tomorrow when the Master Tech is in.

Went home and asked xviper and he knew off that bat what the problem was... THE SENDER NEEDS TO BE GROUNDED.

So I went back today and told them the sender needs to be grounded... They were like... yea whatever... let the Master Tech figure out the problem.
The Master Tech doesn't believe it needs to be grounded so he tries a new gauge and sender like the moron yesterday...
2 Hours later he comes to me and says... Your car is done... All it needed was to be grounded...
For $70 per hour they charge they should have way smarter techs...

So... to xviper...
you da man!

Thanks for the props. It's really not necessary. I don't always know the answer, but if I do, I'll tell ya.

I ended up paying just for labor on the air/fuel ratio, $70... They waived the "labor" fee for the water temp gauge.

So I just paid $70 + 2 Autometer gauges & Greddy adapter

- does the actual sending unit have a wire for ground?
- if it does, why didn't they ground it from the beginning?
- sorry, if I sound stupid... I just don't know what the sender consists of...

I have no idea if the sender had a ground or not... Gauges were brand new in the box.
I just think they should have already known that it needed to be grounded instead of waste HOURS trying to figure out the problem...
xviper knew in a matter of seconds after reviewing my pictures...

- thats what im trying to figure out...
- if there is a black wire with a unit intended for ground, wouldn't you automatically ground it when dealing with electronics?
