Newbie here, have a question. I recently purchased a 2008 S2000, and the engine turned out to be bad. I have a engine out of a 2005, which I know has the wrong intake, 2 cam sensors in the valve cover instead of one, etc... is there anyway to retrofit my 2008 intake/valve cover/sensors onto the 2005 engine and use it with my stock electronics? The 2005 engine is cheap for me compared to finding a 2006-up. Any advice on what needs to be done is appreciated. I was able to find some threads going the other direction (2008 into 2005) but nothing for putting older into new.

I'm pretty sure the fact that the 06+ cars are DBW is going to make this swap difficult for you.

 

I definitely know it will be difficult, but is it possible? Are there internal differences that can't be overcome if I just do a longblock?

 

out of curiosity what happened to the original engine?

 

Basically get the engine ready for Kpro install by using all those 06+ parts and then use the intake manifold from the 08 car. It should work just fine. The long block itself is the same, its just some sensors and the valve cover that are different.

Here's the parts you will need
Crank sensor 37500-PZX-003
Crank wheel 13622-PCX-013 (crank trigger wheel, behind timing cover)
TDC sensor 37510-PZX-003
TDC wheel 14112-PCX-003
Valve cover 12310-PCX-020
Drain plug washer (for PCV valve) 94109-14000
PCV valve 17130-PCX-003
IAT sensor 37880-P05-A00 (not required, but stock IAT will read about 30 degrees hotter)

How do I know? I was gonna drop an F20 into my 07 car, and this was the plan.

 

In addition to the above. You'll also need to block off the air pump passages

 

Why not just rebuild the 08 Engine? What exactly happened to it?

Definitely possible, not hard.

Biggest thing is the trigger wheel (added a note to the above list)

Remove oil pan, then crank pulley, then timing cover, then trigger wheel will just slide off (you can use the trigger wheel out of your 2008 engine)

This can be a touch tricky as you will be resealing the chaincase from underneath the cylinder head, but it's not hard. It definitely beats pulling the cylinder head to get the timing cover off.

2000-2005 trigger wheels are the same (part cannot be installed backwards)
2006-2009 trigger wheels are the same but different than 00-05 (part has a "FRONT" marking and can be installed backwards resulting in no-start) so be aware of it's direction.

You can keep the cylinder head on your 2005 engine. Camshafts can remain in place as well, but you will need to change one trigger plate on the back of one camshaft.

 

I already made the same comment in this thread; https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-un.../#post24653126. But I found I had to plug the Secondary Air Injection passage when using a 2005 engine in a 2006 car. The 2006+ Intake Manifold does not seal off the Secondary Air Injection system on the 2000 - 2005 cylinder head. I will have to tap and plug the Cylinder Head or the Intake Manifold to complete the swop as I have exhaust gases coming out of the oblong hole on the top of the 2006+ Intake Manifold.
