3rd gear

hey i got a question about my s2k 3rd gear, whenever i do high rev on 2nd gear and switch to 3rd, the gear grinds, also when i down shift to 3rd it grinds? i was wondering if this is normal? anyone help?

is it grinding, ir is it rough going into gear? Mine was a little rough going into gear, and i changed my tranny fluid and it fixed it right up. It is pretty cheep if you do it yourself and probally not a bad thing if you havent done it in a while.

uh.. its not grinding that bad, it grinds, but it still goes in gear. but thanks for the info, i'll do that and see if the problem still continues

grinding on down shift is the first sign of your synchros going bad.

:iagree: change your tranny fluid out first and see if that helps any.

a good trick with hondas are to change tranny fluid every 10k, recommended by some of the top honda mechanics i work for, it good for long life

3rd gear is notchy on every s2000, however, grinding is not normal. While tranny fluid replacement may temporarily alleviate the problem, this is ALWAYS a mechanical issue (synchro) that needs to be addressed.

yea sounds like synchro, but i would try the cheap alternative and change the fluid

Doesn't a syncro usually start with 2nd gear if it goes bad? The easiest and cheapest thing to do is change the fluid. If it's still grinding... Take it in. Pray its not a syncro.

any idea how much it will cost fix the syncro?
