Default 4.57 or 4.77

I've searched this forum for 3 hours, gonna get fired, if I slack anymore. lol

4.57 or 4.77.

4.57 gears whine, 4.77 is no noise.

4.57 is ideal between 4.44 and 4.77

4.77 is shorter gear than 4.57

I have the mph, etc.

but which is the one that I need? more importantly which will give me less trouble in a long term and durability is concerned, which one is better in a long term driving/racing/auto-x/abuse (racing abuse, not abuse for the sake of abusing)

I would be auto-xing heavily, mountain runs a lot, accelerate here and there in the city under speed limit (long story) and wouldn't go any faster in the highway but 80 to 85mph.

I will be traveling about 250 miles every weekend.

with those in mind, please advice me on which gears I should get.

I will be having my transmission out next week, and I would like to do some upgrade while I'm at it.

I'm also planning on purchasing the comptech reinforced differential and ACT clutch.

Thanks!

Based on what you mentioned, especially the city driving and the 250 mile weekends, I would say the 4.57s.

The 4.77's just seem a bit too extreme for day-to-day driving imo.

The gear whine really isn't that bad..

I have no idea how people could even consider gear whine as a deciding factor between two sets of gears. My god, this is not a GT car. The darn thing makes noises who cares

if you think the 4.77's are too short vs the 4.57's you haven't really researched it enough. 4.57's give you 1-2 extra mph in 1st and 2nd, 3-4mph more in 3rd and 4th, and 5-6mph more in 5th and 6th.. not very much imo.

i make 220 mile trips (one way) on my 4.77's all the time.. set it to 75mph and hit cruise control - 4300-4400RPM.

80MPH is 4800RPM..

Those figures (mph/revs) seem a bit off... as the 4.57s changed my speedo about 9-10 mph per gear. And this is certain as I've tested it many times due to me being too lazy to have the yellow box calibration.

But I guess we both have biased opinions

i wonder how bad this gear whine is on the 4.56's. Some people complain of discomfort??

They probably also complain about the stock exhaust droning, the stock gears whining, and every other little discomfort that no one would even notice unless someone said something.

They HARDLY make a noise, idk what the hell some people are smoking when they say stuff like its so loud I cant concentrate
