So when you switch a diff out how do you know where to align it on the Diff again?
You align the "white" marks up.

I'm planning on getting a whole different differential assembly from hardtopguy, so will this whole thing need to be balanced or what?

Are you guys sure the white markes relate to balance rather than phasing?

I was taught that a driveshaft with U-joints always had to go back in the same way it comes out, to avoid upsetting it's balance, but I think the issue with the S2000, which has CV joints rather than U-joints, may simply be a matter of retaining the phasing of the joint. In any event, when you swap the diff just align the white marks (if they are still visable) and you should be fine.

I know the inner CV joints in the rear are phase critical, but they are a different type of CV joint, so I really don't know if the importance of the phasing carries through to the CV joint's at the ends of the driveshaft.
Anybody?

Hahaha. Any time something comes off my car it gets cleaned at the very least, and often painted or polished, before it goes back on. Painted marks have never worked well for me, and I use to use an automatic center punch to dimple anything that needed to retain aligment after disassembly/reassembly. Now I'm an old fart, and if the light isn't good, I can't see the darn dimples.

There are 2 marks on the flange, yellow and white. According to the Helms it says to align white to white when replacing DS or diff. I dunno what the yellow is used for though.

Phasing? Isn't that only in Star Trek?? Care to enlighten me on phasing?
